Beacon Beacon Beacon!

Chad and I had a fun day in Beacon yesterday, we took a scenic train ride along the Hudson river and walked to town in the sizzling weather, way fun! It is home to Dia, and thanks to Open Space Gallery, pictures above are from their current exhibitions, it is attracting a lot of urbanities to the sleepy downtown area. The gallery hosted a screening of Beautiful Losers, read my post on Friday about this inspiring documentary. The movie was held at this beautiful building called Howland Cultural Center (pictures below, this building uses geothermal system that reduces energy usage up to 60%). I was so glad to meet the lovely Kalene of Open Space in person and I will definitely go back there for their art openings and events!

Beautiful Losers

Open Space Gallery in Beacon New York is hosting a screening of Beautiful Losers, a documentary about a group of artists whose works are reflected by the subcultures of skateboarding, surf, punk, hip hop & graffiti. It features Barry Mcgee, Margaret Kilgallen, ESPO, Geoff McFetridge, Shepard Fairey, Jo Jackson, Chris Johanson, Harmonie Korine, and many others. Watch the trailer here and if you live in the New York area you might want to go to the screening in Beacon, make a fun day trip out of it, I know I am! I am also excited to go check out Open Space Gallery that is having a "Girls" show right now until August 9th.

Have a great weekend!

My Favorite Godard Actress

Anna Karina is my most favorite French (she's actually Danish) actress from the 1960's. I love her in all the Godard movies- Une Femme est Une Femme, Pierrot Le Fou, Alphaville, etc. But I also love her voice, she may not be the best singer but she often sang in movies, like this You Tube clip from Pierrot Le Fou is the cutest singing scene of all time. Enjoy it!

Sweding

In a previous post I mentioned that I can't wait to see Michel Gondry's new movie- Be Kind Rewind, it is opening this Friday Feb 22, finally! I went to the official website and learned a new vocab- sweding, it means "remaking something from scratch using whatever you can get your hands on." So in that spirit, the first thing I encountered entering the website was my internet got magnetized and destroyed and it needed to be recreated, the 2 images above are the recreations of Google and You Tube. Very clever, right?!

Michel Gondry also has a show at Deitch Gallery that he recreated the set of the video store in the movie. Bet is is a lot of fun and allows visitors to interact with the installations, so make sure you go there on a slow day to fully enjoy the show, which opened on Saturday Feb 16 and closes on March 22 (Tues-Sat: 12pm-6pm) at Deitch Projects- 18 Wooster Street, 213.343.7300.

My Kind of Sexy

I was working at home yesterday and my iTunes was playing the theme song from "A Man and a Woman" , I hadn't heard that song in a while and I recommend that as your work music, it inspired me to design something really beautiful and romantic. I love that movie, Chad even has a video tape of it, it's so romantic, the style is sophisticated and sexy (come on, she's in love with a Grand Prix car racer!), and Anouk's hair is the best thing in the movie! That floppy center-parted below the chin hair that is always in her face, impractical but it's so chic and simple and goes so well with her exquisite features. Some people want to be Audrey, or Jane, or Catherine D, and I want to be Anouk.
