Outside of our Window Yesterday

I love my neighborhood, the New York City Marathon happened right outside our window, we couldn't help but be excited and watched the runners pass by our block. Chad's co-worker was also running so we wanted to cheer for her, I had the camera ready and tried really hard to keep an eye out for her, but of course we missed her, she ended up calling Chad's name and we barely saw her, no picture and no hi-five, we're so lame, how did we miss her?! Anyways, we really enjoyed cheering for the runners, it's so inspiring to see all kinds of people, professionals, superheroes, handicapped, blind, seniors, running together, and it must be a lot of fun to run across the 5 boroughs with 40,000 other people! Who knows, maybe next year we will be running the marathon, better start training now!

Hortensia

Hortensia makes the most beautiful knitwear I've seen recently. They are 3 generations of French women raised in Peru, every piece is hand-knitted by artisans using the softest Alpaca wool, something Peru is well known for. I'm trying make this neck cuff (top pic) but with a much simplified cable in the center, with my skill set it's best to keep it simple. The twisty detail on the purple head band (above) is really gorgeous. I LOVE the vest (below), I don't know how much it cost but it should be about $400 and worth every penny because it takes some mad skill to make it so beautifully.

It's Time to Winterize

I'm knitting a scarf for myself and because I am extremely picky I can't decide what style to settle for. So I went online to do some research and I came across this really cool hooded scarf by Rogan. I like how the hood is lined with fabric. It's a machine-made scarf but I do like the idea of it, it looks so soft and cozy. Hope they will have it at their sample sale!

My Fall Favorites

I'm into the "outdoors-woman" style this fall, instead of splurging hundreds of dollars for the designer's interpretation of the look, why not go to the original sources for a fraction of the price? I love Pendleton wool fabrics, especially their classic Glacier Park blanket with the four color stripes. But as a throw for our living room, I would go for this blue and brown plaid number. I'm also CRAZY about their line of bags, some of the patterns are a little too Southwestern but the red and olive one is subtle and looks so cozy for fall. The leather tote bag looks super cool, it's got all the details of a high-end designer tote bag but with a reasonable price tag. I dig the basket purse look, but not as extreme as Jane Birkin in the 60's, maybe these Nantucket basket purses would do, and the French market basket is a perfect alternative to a canvas tote bag! And can you believe these high-top espadrille sneakers? I MUST have them! I don't care that they are not winter shoes because they are just so perfect!

Siu Yin Chau F/W 2008

I've blogged about my good friend Siu Yin Chau before, and I can't tell you how much I love wearing her knits this winter. I am psyched that she has just posted her new Fall/Winter 2008-09 collection online. I love the scarf with shawl collar and pockets for its multi-functional design, the primary color would really brighten a dark winter wardrobe! The hat/scarf in raspberry below is also very practical and pretty (the picture doesn't do it justice!) But the best pieces in the collection has to be the mixed color wool pieces (last picture shown below), I've seen the yarn in person and it is really soft and beautiful, I must have the pink hat with ties and the purple/gray scarf!!! Too bad I'll have to wait about 10 months before I get to wear them! You can check out her current line at Opening Ceremony, who is also her showroom agent.images: siuyinchau.com
