Holiday Cards Are Here... Finally

I worked double-shift to make these cards and work over the past week and they are finally here. Making these cards involve cutting the paper, scoring each card, printing each card 4 times (front twice, greeting inside and my logo in the back!) I made such a big mistake this morning that I had sent the email blasts before I posted any of the cards on my Etsy shop or my Wonting shop!!! Well they are now posted on Etsy but not Wonting, which I will post early next week. It has been a crazy couple of weeks and I am really looking forward to Thanksgiving weekend of doing absolutely nothing, well maybe blog a little. Back to the cards, I need to take better pictures of them but I can tell you that my favorite card is the winter wonderland couple, that navy blue and hot pink are such a good combo, it gives the print a vintage look! Check 'em out here!

Have Fun with Design

It is every designer's dream when your client lets you design whatever the heck you want and actually have it brought to life. Here are a couple of great examples I found via The Design Files and ManyStuff.
Julien Vallée is a motion graphic designer/ art director from Montréal. A lot of his work are hand-sketched or hand-made with construction paper. He made this brilliant paper computer and cup for a blog called ManyStuff. It is a site that questions the relative roles of the computer and hand-made processes in design.
And from ManyStuff I found Michiel Schuurman's invitation he designed for a hotel in Amsterdam. I love how the triangle is made with just one long strip of paper and works like a puzzle. See how it unfolds below. images: Julien Vallée and ManyStuff

nineteenseventythree

Another husband and wife team from England- James and Emma of 1973, a cutting-edge design/greeting card company. They tend to use unconventional paper and printing techniques that really compliment the beautiful designs of the cards. Besides designing their own card lines (second image above), they also do a great job with signing up great artists like Eleanor Grosch (top image), TADO (first image below) and Catalina (second image below). Their products are 100% green, all of their cards and envelopes are made from recyclable paper and pulp, all of the inks they use are vegetable-based, and the cello bags are bio-degradable. images: nineteenseventythree
